b & tea cocktail

The “b” here stands for the great American spirit–bourbon. It is refreshingly delicious on a hot summer day and pairs well with anything southern like shrimp & grits. You can thank Bobby Flay for this one. Cheers!

For the cocktail:

  • 1 1/2 ounces your favorite bourbon (make it a good one)
  • 1 1/2 ounces black tea, chilled
  • 1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 2 ounces mint simple syrup (see directions below)
  • ice cubes
  • fresh mint for garnish

For the mint simple syrup:

*makes enough syrup for 4 cocktails

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 20 large mint leaves

For the mint simple syrup:

  1. Bring the sugar and water to a boil in a small saucepan over high heat. Boil until the sugar is completely melted, about 1 minute or so.
  2. Remove from the heat and add the mint leaves. Let steep for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Strain and transfer the syrup to a container with a tight-fitting lid. Refrigerate until cold, about 1 hour. It should last up to a week in the fridge.

For the cocktail:

  1. Combine the bourbon, black tea, lemon juice, lime juice, and mint simple syrup into a cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Shake for 10 seconds.
  2. Serve in a cocktail glass with a spring or two of mint for garnish. Serve immediately.
